South-West Governors’ Forum has resolved to establish a dedicated security outfit aimed at addressing banditry and criminal activities in the region.
The governors made this known after their meeting held on Thursday in Lagos.
TheHintsNews reports that there had been intelligence reports of the infiltration of the region by Boko Haram elements.
Checks revealed that some Boko Haram terrorists were recently arrested by the Department of State Security in Ilesha, Osun state.
Addressing journalists after the meeting of the Forum, Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu revealed that the governors have also agreed to joint food hubs to tackle food inflation.
He said: “Following our meeting at the South-West Governors’ Forum, we have collectively resolved to establish a dedicated security outfit aimed at addressing banditry and criminal activities in our region.
“The safety and well-being of our citizens remain our highest priority, and this new initiative will strengthen security efforts across our states.
“Additionally, we have agreed to establish joint food hubs to tackle food inflation and ensure food security for all.
“By fostering stronger collaboration in agriculture, we are determined to make food more accessible and affordable to our people.”
Sanwo-Olu said the forum commended President Bola Tinubu for his continuous efforts to stabilize the economy, manage the exchange rate, and address petrol prices, all of which play a crucial role in national progress.
He added that their discussions also covered key regional issues such as security, agriculture, economic collaboration, and the creation of the Southwest Development Commission, which would serve as a catalyst for coordinated development across our states.
The forum noted that it remained steadfast in its commitment to work together in building a safer, more prosperous Southwest to the benefit of all citizens.
