The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the cause of the death of a four year-old pupil, Miguel Ovoke of Brickhall School, Abuja.
The resolution of the House followed the adoption of a motion moved at the plenary on Wednesday by Hon. Kelechi Nwogu.
Moving the motion, Nwogu recalled that Ovoke was dropped in the school by his mother on the 24th of April, 2024.
He regretted that the young innocent child was reported dead under suspicious circumstances which the school was unable to explain
TheHintsNews reports that a death certificate dated April 24, 2024, issued by Excel Specialist Hospital, Abuja, showed that Ovoke was brought to the hospital by his teachers around 11 am in an unconscious state.
The medical report, signed by Dr. Akinwande Ajayi, on behalf of the medical director, indicated that he was brought in, “on account of aspiration on meat while feeding at school.”
Nwogu noted: “Worried that the parents of the deceased boy alleged a coverup by the school management in collaboration with the Nigerian Police.”
He expressed concern about the traumatic effects of the sudden death of young Ovoke on the family and other classmates.
The lawmaker expressed worry about the negative image that the act would leave on the country in the comity of nations if such was not addressed.
The House resolved to constitute a special Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the untimely death of the young Ovoke within four weeks and report back for further legislative action.
