Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti on Wednesday led a high-level delegation of the Labour Party (LP) to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja to submit the Certified True Copy of Supreme Court judgement on the leadership of the party.
TheHintsNews reports that a five-member panel of the Supreme Court last week set aside the decision of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which earlier recognised Julius Abure’s leadership.
The apex court, in its decision, emphasised that matters relating to party leadership are internal affairs, over which the judiciary has no jurisdiction.
The electoral body in a post on its verified X handle said the delegation was received by INEC’s Acting Chairman, Mr. Sam Olumekun, and other National Commissioners.
It said: “During the visit, Governor Otti formally presented a Certified True Copy of the recent Supreme Court judgment concerning the party’s leadership.
“He noted that the meeting was aimed at fostering clarity, mutual understanding, and institutional alignment regarding the LP’s current structure.”
The commission added that both parties engaged in discussions centered on enhancing collaboration and reinforcing democratic values.
The Commission reaffirmed it’s unwavering commitment to neutrality, transparency, and the rule of law in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.
