The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended President Bola Tinubu for reconstituting tertiary institutions’ governing councils.
The President of NANS, Pedro Chibuzor in a statement issued Wednesday said Nigerian students are immensely grateful toTinubu for taking prompt action to appoint worthy academicians, technocrats, and experienced politicians into the councils.
The students’ body noted that by the appointment of about 200 academicians and 100 professors/PHD into the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Councils, as well as technocrats and politicians brought a renewed hope to the development agitations of Nigerian students.
It also appealed to Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to cooperate with the new council members and the President’s genuine concern for the development of our education sector.
It said: “We, the Nigerian students, therefore, commend President Bola Tinubu for his love and concern about the transformation of academic institutions through this sound appointment of incorruptible team of thoroughbred administrators to help fasten the development in our ivory towers after the recent introduction of student loan for Nigerian students.”
The appointments, it said, have the potential to help fast-track the rapid development of Nigerian academic institutions.
While congratulating the governing council members and its chairmen on their appointments, NANS appealed to them to stand for justice and not encourage victimisation of students by institutions management.
