The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has said that the challenges facing the country are closely tied to the issues of leadership.
It emphasised that effective leadership is crucial for the management and utilisation of our natural and human resources.
NYCN President, Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, in his indepence message to Nigerians said it was imperative for leaders at all levels to approach their roles with integrity, transparency, and a commitment to justice.
He noted that only through honest and equitable governance can Nigeria hope to rise and take its rightful place among the global community.
Sokubo, however, added that the challenges the country is encountering are not impossible to overcome.
He said: “As Nigeria commemorates its 64th Independence Day, we take this moment to reflect on our nation’s journey, the challenges we have faced, and the vast potential that lies ahead.
“Nigeria is indeed a blessed nation, rich in diversity with its many tribes, languages, and cultures. This vibrant mosaic is not only a hallmark of our identity but also a powerful resource that can be harnessed for national development and unity.
“Throughout our history, Nigeria has navigated numerous trials and tribulations, similar to many other nations around the world.
“From our struggle for independence to the complex societal issues we face today, we have endured significant challenges.
“While we find ourselves in a difficult period, it is crucial to maintain a sense of optimism. Despite the obstacles, we have made meaningful strides, and with continued effort and collaboration, a brighter future for Nigeria is within our reach.
“We should keep in mind that the challenges we encounter are not impossible to overcome. With resilience and determination, we can tackle these obstacles and create a prosperous Nigeria. When managed wisely, our natural resources have the potential to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life for all citizens.
“To harness this potential effectively, it is crucial that agencies influencing Nigerians—such as the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)—are closely monitored by relevant authorities. This oversight will ensure they fulfill their duties responsibly and without corruption.”
