A former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri has said that Sunday worship is not scriptural, adding that it is rooted in paganism.
Omokri, while responding to one of his followers on X said he believed that it originated as a day to worship the sun god of the Romans.
He added that Yeshua went to the Synagogue on that Sabbath Day (Shabbat), which begins on Friday and ends on Saturday.
Omokri noted: “Regarding the specific question you asked about why I do not post on Sundays for Christians, please note that I do not attend church on Sundays, nor did Yeshua, Whom I follow.
“Sunday worship is, in my opinion, not Scriptural and has its roots in European paganism. It originated as a day to worship the sun god of the Romans, and after the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great (Constantine I) supposedly became a ‘Christian’, Sunday was adopted for Christian worship in Europe, along with a number of other unscriptural practices.
“Because these usually lead to arguments, I avoid these explanations and just mind my business.
“However, these are my views, and I do not force them on anyone. I will give an account of my life to God, so my views are mine and not to be used to judge others.
“I celebrate Jumu’ah for the specific reason that it coincides with the Sabbath Day, and that offers me an opportunity to promote peaceful religious coexistence in Nigeria, the largest IslamoChristian nation on Earth.
“However, if you believe that my greetings to the Muslim Ummah every Friday is sycophancy, then my counsel to you is that you should stop following me and follow those you feel are not sycophantic.
“I firmly believe God did not put me on Earth to live up to your expectations, and He did not place you here to live up to mine.”
