The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the former Governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai is free to join any party of his choice including the Social Democratic Party (PDP).
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Basiru stated this on Wednesday while featuring on TVC.
While reacting to el-Rufai’s rumoured plan to join the SDP, the party scribe said it is within his rights to join any political party including SDP.
He stated: “In Nigeria, I don’t think there’s rigidity in terms of movement from one political party, except for some of us who have gone into the Awolowo political dynasty. And we move like my father, from AG to UPN and any other party that has a progressive orientation.
“But I think there’s fluidity in terms of movement of people from one political party to the other political party. And of late we have been seeing, possibly, meetings of pictures of Mallam Nasir el-Rufai with the chairman of SDP. Possibly, he may want to move.
“It is part of the right of every Nigerian to leave any political party. And you know, even the PDP candidate in the 2023 elections had moved from APC to ACN, ACN to APC, APC to PDP, all in the quest for power.
“So it’s about his choice as an individual, and nobody can abridge his democratic choice. So as far as we are concerned, our party in Kaduna state is waxing stronger. But as far as his choice whether to leave APC or not, is a personal choice.”
