The Governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu has succumbed to the cold hands of death at the age of 67 after a prolonged battle with leukemia.
He returned to Nigeria in September following a three-month medical leave in Germany.
Since his return to Nigeria in September, Akeredolu stayed in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital and tried to govern his state from there, leading to public outrage.
He recently proceeded on another medical leave following the directive of President Bola Tinubu and subsequently hand over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Akeredolu, it was gathered, died on Wednesday in Lagos. He was managed by State House doctors up to his death because they could not fly him abroad.
“Akeredolu is dead; he died in Lagos. They were looking for dialysis machines to be sent to his secret location in Lagos last week,” a source said.
Another source said he had multiple organ failures as of Tuesday night, which led to his death.
