Ahead of the February 17 Edo state governorship primary election, a former Minister of state, Budget and National Planning, Clem Agba, has said that contrary to insinuations in some quarter he was not the anointed candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Agba made this known on Wednesday in Abuja while addressing journalists at the APC National secretariat after submitting his nomination form to the party.
He stressed that if he were to be the anointed candidate that he would not bother campaigning.
His words: “If I were the anointed, do I need to go about campaigning? I will sit at home and wait for the coronation. But I know I have to sell myself to the people. And because our people could be forgetful, I had to remind them the things that I did.
“I know I am the best among them. And in all the parties. I am not talking about APC now. Because I see all the contenders across the parties. Why do you think I am the only one under attack? Why am I the only one that is the godson? It is because no one throws stones at a tree that has unripe fruits.”
Agba added that Governor Godwin Obaseki-led People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has prepared grounds for the APC to win the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
He stressed that it would be easier for APC to win if he secures the party’s ticket.
The former Minister pointed out that Obaseki’s administration is characterised with bad governance.
Against this background, he said the electorate in Edo State would not think twice in casting their ballots for the candidate of the APC.
“PDP has already campaigned for APC. Not just by the crisis in the party but its poor performance,” he said.
