President Bola Tinubu has appointed Tunji Disu as the Acting Inspector General of Police.
Disu replaced Kayode Egbetokun and his appointment took immediate effect.
The President in a statement issued Tuesday thanked Egbetokun for his decades of distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force and to the nation.
He added that his dedication, professionalism and commitment to strengthening our internal security architecture are deeply appreciated.
Tinubu said he had accepted the resignation of Egbetokun, following his letter citing pressing family considerations.
He stressed that in line with the Police Act 2020, he would convene the Nigeria Police Council shortly to formally consider Disu’s appointment as substantive Inspector General of Police before transmitting his name to the Senate for confirmation.
The President added: “In view of the current security challenges and in accordance with extant laws, I have approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu as Acting Inspector General of Police with immediate effect.
“I am confident that his experience, operational depth and leadership capacity will provide steady direction for the Force at this critical time.
“Our administration remains unwavering in its commitment to strengthening national security and ensuring that the Nigeria Police Force is professional, accountable and fully equipped to discharge its constitutional responsibilities.”
