The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara Tuesday defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
TheHintsNews reports that Rivers state lawmakers recently quit the umbrella party to join the broom gang.
However, Fubara declared his intention to join the ruling party during a stakeholders’ meeting at Government House, Port Harcourt.
He explained that he fully briefed the President on the political developments in the state and expressed confidence that President Tinubu would take necessary action.
Fubara revealed that he visited the Presidential Villa on Monday to consult with President Bola Tinubu, saying his visit was driven by the interest of Rivers State, not personal reasons.
Fubara noted: “The President’s support is the only reason he remains in office, noting that without Tinubu’s intervention, he would have been out of power by now.
“We have the full support and the positive nod to leave where we are, because we didn’t get any protection. The reason we are still standing is because of that place.”
He added that the best way to appreciate the President is to stand with him completely, not partially.
Fubara noted: “So, we have taken that decision today, since we have got the pass. Everyone here who has followed and suffered with me — our decision today is that we are all moving to the APC.
“We are the ones that will give that support, and we will give it with a loud voice, because we know that the people of Rivers State are with us.”
