A group, Progressive Foundational Movement (PFM) has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately suspend the chairmen of Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for inefficiencies.
The president recently suspended the former Governor of Central Bank (CBN), Godwin Emefiele and the former Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa for alleged abuse of office.
TheHintsNews reports that both Emefiele and Bawa are currently in the custody of the Department of State Security (DSS) where they are undergoing interrogation.
However, the group in a statement issued Thursday by its National Coordinator, Aganaba Johnson said the two agencies have failed woefully in the fight against corruption in the past four years.
It noted that the CCB has not prosecuted a single person in the Code of Conduct Tribunal in the past for years.
It said: “The President should also beam his sweeping anti-corruption cleansing on the Code of Conduct Bureau and the Code of Conduct Tribunal, as these two agencies have failed woefully in the fight against corruption in the past four years, especially the Code of Conduct Bureau, where the Chairman has not in the past four years sent any one person to be prosecuted in the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
“The Chairman, Isah Mohammed is inefficient to continue to hold the position of CCB. It is on record that for the first time in CCB history, a Board member has to petition the Chairman to the National Assembly for ineptitude and corruption, because the Chairman is running the Bureau as his personal business empire without recourse to the Board for any decision he takes.”
The group added that the chairman has more than two thousand petitions on his table that he refused to investigate and prosecute.
It noted that instances abound with petitions against the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) henchmen where the Chairman refused to assign the petitions for investigation.
