Troops of Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) operating under Sector 3 in Mongunu, Nigeria have eliminated 15 terrorists in Borno.
Chief Military Information Officer, Lt-Col. Olaniyi Osoba, in a statement issued Thursday said during the clearance operation, own air component successfully targeted and interdicted several armed and wounded terrorists on motor bikes regrouping in Guzamala.
He said: “In a continued effort to dismantle terrorist operations , troops of Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) operating under Sector 3 in Mongunu , Nigeria have achieved further successes in its clearance operations in its ongoing clearance operation in Kukawa, Borno State.
“Consolidating on the recent victory,the troops in a joint effort with hybrid force and air component support, have intercepted and neutralized some fleeing wounded ISWAP terrorists and captured additional cache of weapons.
“During the meticulously coordinated air and ground clearance operations, own air component successfully targeted and interdicted several armed and wounded terrorists on motor bikes regrouping in Guzamala.
“In a follow-up ground operation, troops eliminated 15 terrorists and one captured alive as they attempted to flee after sustaining more injuries.”
Osoba noted that the troops also destroyed three additional Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs), bringing the total number of VBIEDs destroyed to seven.
He added that the operation led to the capture of a significant cache of weapons, including seven AK-47 rifles, one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) bomb and tube, two Anti-aircraft guns, and 152 Shilka rounds of ammunition .
Osoba pointed out that the ongoing clearance operation marks a decisive step in the ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in the region, further weakening the terrorists ranks.
