The Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission, Bolakale Mogaji has revealed that the modern squash courts of Kwara State Stadium will be completed before the end of April 2024.
The former national coach for Squash stated that the Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is leaving no stone unturned in the completion of what might be the first ultra modern squash court in Sub Saharan Africa.
Mogaji disclosed this during a facility tour with members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State Chapter in Ilorin on Wednesday.
He said, “Kwara is set to join the league of Top Squash Classics hosts as an ultra modern facility nears completion.
“The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has assured that the state will reclaim its top spot in Squash in Nigeria.
“In the next three weeks the spanking new 10 court squash facilities will be set for launch and the State Government is planning big on the game which would be having a non competitive presence in the Paris 2014 Olympics.
“The Governor is very keen on hosting an international Squash Classics in Kwara. “
Mogaji added that government was making unprecedented investment in sports, making the sector fourth in Kwara after Health Education and Works.
He noted that the governor sees sports as an industry to invest money and reap maximum benefit in youth engagement.
Reacting SWAN Chairman, Kwara State Chapter, Ayodejii Ismail commended the initiative of the governor for investing in sports.
He said the completion of the squash hall would give opportunities to players within the state to have access to world class facilities.
