The construction of Keana Dam in Keana local government area of Nasarawa state has been abandoned despite the payment of N47.6 million by the federal government to Karl T Geotechnical and Engineering Services LTD.
Tracka, the Non governmental organisation tracking various government projects revealed that the federal government paid the said amount between 2021 and 2022.
It also revealed that the host community said the contractor was last seen on site over a year ago.
The residents of the community said the contractor abandoned the site after digging the dam and laying it with stones.
It said: “Between 2021 and 2022, N47.6m was paid to Karl T Geotechnical and Engineering Services LTD for the Completion of the Construction of Keana Dam, Keana LGA, Nasarawa in the 2022 FG budget.
“We tracked and report that this project has been abandoned as grasses have started growing around there.
“We spoke to residents of the community who told us that the contractors were last seen on sight, over a year ago after digging the dam and laying it with stones.”
“The community residents lamented the death of a child who died while playing around the dam recently and they are scared that such might happen again if the dam is not completed in time.
“We call on Lower Benue RBDA , the executing agency, to explain to the public how funds disbursed for this project was spent and facilitate the swift completion of this project.”
