The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Owerri Operations Office, has distributed essential relief materials to persons affected by the recent communal conflict between Awoma and Umuobi communities in Ohaji Federal Constituency of Imo State.
The agency in a statement posted on its X handle on Sunday said the distribution exercise, held on Friday, September 26, 2025, was led by the Head of Operations, Igwe Nnamdi Chukwudi, alongside NEMA staff and member representing Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency, Hon. Dibiagwu Okechukwu.
It noted that the relief intervention was designed to cushion the plight of the victims and restore hope to the affected households.
The agency stressed that the beneficiaries, community leaders, local government authorities, as well as women and youth representatives were present at the event.
Items distributed by NEMA included bags of rice, vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, salt, spaghetti, and tomato paste.
It said the lawmaker, Okechukwu, complemented the intervention with empowerment items such as: sewing machines, grinding machines, and mosquito nets.
He commended the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, for her swift and timely response in bringing succour to the people, stressing that the gesture reflects the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and livelihoods in times of crisis.
