The 14th Africa Armwrestling Championship, scheduled for July 23-27, 2025, in Abuja, has received a massive boost as members of the House of Representatives pledged their full support to the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairman, Hon. Adeboye Adeyinka (Sir Zulu).
Speaking at the LOC inauguration ceremony held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, lawmakers assured the LOC chairman of their commitment to making the event one of the best-organized championships in Africa.
Hon. Oluwatoyin Fayinka Moses, representing the Chairman, House Committee on Sports, emphasized the economic and social impact of the championship, stating:
“This championship is not just about competition; it is about positioning Nigeria as a key player in international sports. We stand firmly behind the LOC to ensure all necessary resources and support are provided for a successful event.”
Hon. Kafilat Ogbara,a member of the House of Representatives, highlighted the youth empowerment potential of the championship:
“Sports is a powerful tool for development, and this championship will inspire young Nigerians to pursue excellence in athletics. Beyond the competition, it will open doors for talents, create jobs, and boost our sports industry.”
Hon. Afolabi Afuwape stressed the importance of infrastructure and international recognition,stating that
“Nigeria has world-class sporting facilities, and this championship is a perfect opportunity to showcase our readiness to host major global events. The LOC has our full support to ensure that everything is in place for an outstanding tournament.”
The event saw the unveiling of a highly experienced LOC team tasked with ensuring a seamless and world-class championship. It was attended by top sports officials and dignitaries, including representatives from the National Sports Commission (NSC), the Nigeria Armwrestling Federation, and leading figures from the media, logistics, and corporate sectors.

In his address, Hon. Adeboye Adeyinka reiterated that the Africa Armwrestling Championship 2025 is not just about competition but also about empowering Nigerian youth, creating business opportunities, and showcasing Nigeria’s sports infrastructure to the world.
“This is not just a championship; it’s a movement. We are setting the stage for something bigger than ourselves. The success of this event will position Nigeria as a top sports destination in Africa,” he stated.
With over 22 countries and 300 competitors expected to participate, Abuja 2025 promises to be a landmark event, drawing global attention to Nigeria’s sporting excellence and organizational capabilities.
As preparations intensify, the overwhelming backing from lawmakers, sports authorities, and corporate stakeholders signals Nigeria’s readiness to host an unforgettable championship that will set new standards for African sports events.
