Team Yobe has secured its first medal at the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, following the impressive performance of Charity Jatau’s in the 48kg Judo event.
Jatau’s silver medal has put Team Yobe on the medal table, and the team is optimistic about adding more medals to their tally.
Also, Team Kaduna won gold medals in both male and female category of beach volleyball at the ongoing National Sports Festival (NSF),
In the male category, Kaduna beat Rivers to lift the gold medal, while hosts Ogun were beaten by Kaduna girls, to pick gold medals in both categories.
Speaking after the game, the Secretary of the Kaduna State Volleyball Association (KADSVA), Adamu Mohammed praised both teams for making the state proud.
“We are not surprised about the outcome of this result. Our chairman, Engineer Musa Nimrod is also the president of Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), ensured the camping and motivation of the teams.
“We are happy and we congratulate His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, our Sports Commissioner, Professor Ben Gugong, staff of the ministry, all athletes and citizens of our dear state for this victory,” he said.
Meanwhile in the Squash event, Rofiat Abdulazeez and Isaac Blessings defeated their counterparts from Bayelsa state to clinch a gold medal in Women’s doubles event.
