Senator Monday Okpebholo has been declared winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship primaries in Edo State.
The Chairman of the election committee and the Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu announced the final result of the exercise in Benin after the collating results from 18 Local Government Areas.
Okpebholo pulled a 12,433 votes to defeat 11 other aspirants who contested the primary election.
TheHintsNews reports that the ruling party sacked the Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodinma as the chairman of Edo Governorship Primary Election Chairman.
His removal may not be unconnected with a rancorous primary election conducted last Saturday by Uzodinma which saw the emergence of three different aspirants as the winners.
In his place, the party has appointed the Governor of Cross River state, Senator Bassey Otu to oversee the rerun election scheduled for Thursday.
The party in a statement issued Wednesday by the National Organizing Secretary, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu announced seven-man committee to conduct the rerun ordered by the party.
