The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun state chapter has accused the officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) of professional misconduct.
Its Chairman, Sarafadeen Awotunde made the allegation while addressing a press conference on Tuesday in Osogbo.
He recalled the ruling of the Court of Appeal, Akure division which affirmed the election of the local government chairmen conducted by the administration of Gboyega Oyetola.
Awotunde noted: “We’re all aware that immediately after the Court of Appeal judgement was delivered, it was directed by Mr. President at the FAAC meeting that the State government should open accounts for the local governments in their various states through the Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN) at all their regional offices.
“We have signatories to the account and nobody can receive allocation into personal accounts. CBN is not a private company.
“What brought this press conference is that we were told that some impostors went to the CBN office yesterday, 23rd of June, 2025.
“We went there as well when we heard the information but they asked us to come back today, 24th of June, 2025 in order to see the comptroller.
“But on getting to CBN this morning, they denied us the right to see the comptroller and we’re not there to cause trouble.
“They closed the gate and a particular mobile police officer who is a lady uttered an unprofessional statement. We later presented the copy of the court judgement to them and one of those guys started matching the copies of the judgement.
“What the CBN officials are doing in Osun is illegal and I want to advise the new comptroller to maintain political neutrality. What the Osun Comptroller of CBN did this morning was unethical and unprofessional.’’
