A Rano Air aircraft with registration number 5N-BZY suffered a significant engine failure while en route, prompting an emergency response.
Despite visible smoke in the cabin and flight deck, the crew successfully executed emergency protocols, ensuring the safety of all passengers.
The engine failure occurred in engine 1, and the crew swiftly responded by donning oxygen masks and initiating emergency procedures.
The aircraft was safely landed without further incident, and all passengers were unharmed.
However, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has grounded the aircraft pending a thorough investigation into the incident.
The flight, which was bound for Abuja and Katsina, was ultimately cancelled due to operational difficulties.
Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, NCAA, Michael Achimugu, through his official X handle @mikeachimu01 on Monday, however assured the public that investigation would be conducted thoroughly, and all steps would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
He emphasised the authority’s commitment to safety in Nigerian aviation, stating that flights will be cancelled if there is even the slightest concern about safety.
The incident highlights the importance of stringent safety protocols and the effectiveness of emergency procedures in ensuring the safety of air travelers.
