The North Central Amazons for BAT, a pro All Progressive Congress (APC) women group, has called on the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha to return to the House of Representatives.
The women group made the call 72 hours after the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia sacked Amaobi Ogah of the Labour Party, declaring Onyejeocha the lawful winner of the February 25 Isiukwator-Imunneochi Federal Constituency election.
The convener of the group, Lynda Adzuanaga, in a statement issued Sunday described Onyejeocha’s victory as a win for women in politics and women in general.
She explained that the call was necessitated by the fact that they want to see more women at the National Assembly— women with outstanding qualities and experience.
Adzuanaga noted: “We congratulate her ‘never say die’ spirit that she has continued to display all these years. We salute her courage to neutralise adversity and conspiracies, especially in men dominated political environment. Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha is indeed one woman with noble qualities.
“We congratulate Nigerians who stood by her in prayers, especially women like us who look up to her as a role model. We encourage other women to take a cue and start believing in themselves.
“Regardless of the fact that our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has so magnanimously, appointed this beauty and brain as Minister of State for Labour and Employment, premised on her sterling qualities of leadership, integrity and representation in government, we want to appeal to the Honourable Minister that it is our deep conviction and belief, that she belongs at the Green Chambers of our National Assembly.
Adzuanaga added that as a group, they were well aware of her exceptional qualities, which they believe spurred the President to nominate and further confirmed her as a minister.
She stressed: “In a National Assembly of limited women and specifically, a paltry 16 women out of the 360 House of Representative members, Honourable Onyejeocha one of our finest, a key player in our First 11 is definitely a sine qua non”.
“Hon Onyejeocha has time without number, proven her mettle as a legislator, contributing brilliantly to debates on critical and topical issues in our nation on the floor of the House.
“Her voice has been one of the loudest, consistent and most compelling, in the House in all the years she has served as a legislator and it is our firm belief, that the people of her constituency and indeed, the women of Nigeria are better off with her in the House of Representatives, which is a familiar turf for her.”
The group insisted that with Onyejeocha’s return to the Green Chambers, more women and people oriented bills would be introduced and passed into law for the collective good and benefit of all Nigerians.
