African Champion, Omolola Didih of Lagos State and Ruth Nyong of Rivers State were the outstanding performers of Day 2 of the weightlifting event at the ongoing Ogun 2024 National Sports Festival. Both weightlifters put up impressive performances to win four gold medals and two silvers for their states in the women’s 49kg and 55kg categories. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume has approved the promotion of 18 senior officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to the rank of Assistant Corps Marshal. In August 2023, terrorists, obviously with better intelligence, ambushed soldiers in Chikoba community, Shiroro, Local Government Area of Niger State, killing no fewer than 25 of them. Sadly, a military helicopter that went to evacuate the dead and injured soldiers also crashed, killing another 11 soldiers. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA) has arrested 80-year-old grandpa, Ayuba Ashiru and 82-year-old grandma Mrs. Uloma Sunday as well as her daughter Chisom Uchechi, 32, in raids carried out across the country.
