The leadership of the Atiku-led proposed 2027 National Coalition has said that it has not adopted African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a political platform, contrary to reports in some sections of the media.
It assured that a formal announcement would be made by the leaders of the coalition once negotiations are concluded.
TheHintsNews reports that opposition leaders in the country, some aggrieved members in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have been at the former front of championing a political coalition capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
The coalition was already gaining momentum when a torrent of defections hit the main opposition party in the country, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which saw some National and State Assembly members, governors, political appointees in some states ditching the umbrella from the broom.
Similar defections were recorded in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), as well as the Labour Party (LP).
However, the coalition urged the public to disregard the news story as it was completely false, adding that no such decision has been taken.
A member of the Coalition and former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Salihu Lukman made this known in a statement issued on Thursday, where he also denied that he has been appointed to head the secretariat of the coalition.
He said: “My attention has been drawn to the Vanguard Newspaper publication claiming that I have been appointed to head the Secretariat of the coalition. The public should disregard the story as it is completely false. No such decision has been taken.
“Also false is the report that the coalition has adopted the ADC at its meeting of Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
“Unfortunately, there appears to be some mischief makers promoting and planting stories in the media with the clear aim of sowing seeds of discord among coalition leaders.
“The public and the media should please disregard all these mischievous stories.”
“The truth is negotiations among all the coalition leaders are progressing very well and final decisions about the political platform for the 2027 election will be taken soon.”
