The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen has attributed the victory of Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State at the poll to the democratic disposition of President Bola Tinubu, who had shown courage in allowing free, fair and credible elections under his leadership.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Monday declared Governor Diri, candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), winner of the governorship election conducted in Bayelsa on Saturday.
Abbas in a statement issued Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, congratulated Diri on his reelection for a second term.
The Speaker noted that successive administrations of the APC since 2015 had strengthened the electoral process, allowing various opposition parties to get into power, especially in the National Assembly.
Abbas cited the example of the 10th House, which has seven opposition party members.
He urged the political parties and candidates who are dissatisfied with the outcome of the election to seek redress at the election petitions tribunal.
Abbas urged the winners across party lines to support Tinubu in delivering dividends of democracy to Nigerians, as planned in the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of the administration.
