Betrayal is a painful reminder that not everyone is worthy of our trust. By Anonymous
The issue of the burial of Awujale of Ijebu, Oba Sikiru Adetona, which I know (though personal opinion) is greatly overlooked and refused to be talked about by major players in the media industry. Maybe because of personal sentiments, religion affiliations, politics or fear of their career. Well today is not to address that but to focus on Yoruba culture, and Awujale burial issue.
Obaship is an institution of political, spiritual, cultural authority and leadership of Yoruba people.
The origin dated back centuries ago before the advent of all these alien religions. The OMO-TI- OLU- IWA-BI early settlements were organised around the Obaship structure and clan. This is linked to divine authority (Alase ikeji Orisa) with Oba regarded as a semi/Demi divine figure who embodies the Spiritual and political unity of the Olukumi People.
Take away your mind from all these OLOSELU (Politicians), Some so-called Obas of today — are people with questionable characters, wealth and even ancestries. Some of the Obas can’t tell you the history of his people and migration stories. Yet! They are parading themselves as Asoju Orisa, committing atrocities in our land…( Yoruba are now eating Eewo (sacrilege or taboo).
Yoruba mythology attributes the creation of Kingship to divine intervention, with Obas often believed to be descendants of Oduduwa and appointed by deities (Orisa in Yorubaland/ Religion), not Pastors or Imam.
Obaship is a deep Spiritual institution that can’t be toy with (Atari Ajanaku, kii se eru omode). They are custodians of culture, traditions. They oversee rituals and act as mediators between the people and the Orisas where need be. For instance, the Ooni’risha’s power all over Yorubaland can’t be erased in the periods of expansion and migration in Yorubaland.
Alaafin around the 17th – 19th centuries was a life and death influential ruler during the Oyo Empire. Awujale of IjebuLand is a custodian of his people’s heritage and culture of expansion.
The main reason I will talk about his (Awujale) transit betrayal decision blunder which will be eternal….
Late Sikiru became Oba at a very tender age of 26 years. Selected (allegedly) through traditional divination (the Osugbos will need to answer all these) if the succession was divinely sanctioned or out of elite emotion.
Questions crying for answer
* Did Ifa truly pick Oba Adetona?.
* Was he Spiritually suitable?.
* If succession was divinely sanctioned or you all picked because he was the most educated as at that time?.
* Did Adetona go through purification rites, ritual baths, sacrifice and offerings to ancestors and deities or Eyin Osugbo dogbon si?.
* Did he take an oath to preserve our culture?.
* When he died (Because he did not WAJA), was there any traditional rites to announce his death? Or another alien religion leader announced his death?.
* His body was supposed to be prepared for burial in accordance with traditional customs, which may include cleansing, anointing and dressing in sacred regalia… Kindly come out and tell us what happened.
Ijebu Osugbos, we need a Yoruba world media conference on all these aforementioned or forever remain silent and take it that you betray your ancestors and your race at large. Also note that we will never take you seriously or any Oba from your place..l
Where is your allegiance to protect traditions (Eyin Agbagba to di opo aye mu)
Where is Iba Gani Adams or you only talk about political issues? Are you just Aare Ona Kakanfo of Oyo or Yoruba in general?
Sikiru Adetona’s burial was a betrayal to the throne of Obas and all his likes that are still alive must be dethroned before they kill our culture and we, the generation coming will start seeing our culture and tradition as evil and not to be associated with at all.
I will pause this series by saying let all Obas that openly profess allegiance to another religion, castigating our culture and traditions that brought them to the throne be dethroned. Yes, dethrone them through traditions and legal means because what they did is obtaining that throne by trick which is a crime both to the law of the land and a betrayal to the ALALES.
Just like Sikiru Adetona who came through tradition but declared war again the same route that brought him to the throne. He tactically used the Ogun state House of Assembly to wage the war with his stooge in politics.
Now is the time to rise up and fight for the Kootu Oojire, Now is the time to fight for our tradition. Now is to preserve what you promise Awon Baba wa.
Those Obas that are ready to defend their alien faith can go and rule in Waddai, Saudi, and Jerusalem in one of the wonderful Yoruba singer’s voice Benny Lee.
