The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says officers involved in the alleged coup plot to overthrow the government would be formally arraigned before appropriate military judicial panels to face trial in accordance with the Armed Forces Act and other applicable service regulations.
The DHQ in a statement issued Monday by the Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba said having concluded investigations into alleged acts of indiscipline involving 16 officers, those found culpable would be court martialed.
TheHintsNews reports that the DHQ had issued a statement in October 2025 on the arrest of the officers over alleged breaches of service regulations.
Uba noted that the comprehensive investigation, conducted in line with established military procedures, examined the circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel.
He added: “The findings identified a number of the officers with allegations of plotting to overthrow the government, which is inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards required of members of the AFN.”
Uba stressed that the measures being taken were purely disciplinary and part of institutional mechanisms to preserve order, discipline and operational effectiveness within the ranks.
He assured that the Armed Forces remain resolute in maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, loyalty and respect for constitutional authority.
