The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has confirmed that the accident involving one of its rescue trucks en route to an emergency scene led to the death of three persons.
It explained that the accident occurred on May 9, 2025, at ECWA Junction, Maitama, Abuja, adding that the three personnel directly involved in the incident have been suspended.
The FFS FCT Controller in a statement issued Tuesday revealed that the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Jaji Abdulganiyu paid condolence visits to the affected family.
It noted that the first was a personal visit on 11th May, 2025, immediately after the incident, while the second visit on May 12, 2025 was conducted alongside management and staff of the Federal Fire Service.
It reads: “The Federal Fire Service (FFS) wishes to update the general public on the unfortunate accident that occurred on May 9, 2025, at ECWA Junction, Maitama, Abuja, involving one of our rescue trucks en route to an emergency scene. The incident led to the tragic loss of three lives.
“We deeply regret this occurrence and affirm the following:The Service has remained in contact with the family and will continue to offer necessary support during this difficult period.
“A comprehensive internal investigation was immediately initiated and remains ongoing.
“Three personnel directly involved in the incident; the driver and two accompanying firefighters have been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
“The Service is collaborating with relevant authorities to ensure that all facts are established and appropriate actions are taken.
“While we understand the public’s concern, we kindly appeal for patience and continued trust as due process unfolds. The Federal Fire Service remains committed to transparency, professionalism, and accountability in all aspects of its operations.”
