The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has partnered with a non-governmental organisation, ‘I am the Future of Nigeria’ (IFON) to promote an innovative approach to improving road safety awareness in Nigeria.
The partnership, the Corps said, was targeted at creating a unique entertainment based education project in the form of a road safety film festival that would complement existing efforts of the agency.
The Corp Marshal, FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, while addressing the press in Abuja noted that it was important to intimate the public on some of the mileages the agency has recorded in the course of advancing road safety education and advocacy campaigns.
Mohammed said, one of the major strides was the partnership between the Corps and ‘I am the Future of Nigeria’ (IFON) targeted at creating a unique entertainment based education project
He explained that the initiative tagged, ‘Drive Right Drive Smart’ designed to complement existing road safety programmes through visual storytelling.
Mohammed stated: “The campaign is a partnership between FRSC and IFON to promote a weeklong Road Safety Film Festival and other associated events.
“It intends to present a unique and innovative approach to improving road safety awareness in Nigeria.
“By integrating entertainment with education, the festival proposes to effectively engage the public and promote responsible road use in a memorable and impactful manner.
“The film festival, which is the first of its kind in Nigeria, has been happening across the globe and Nigeria cannot be an exception.”
The FRSC boss added that the Corps was convinced that the objectives of this Road Safety Film Festival would help the re-education and re-orientation of road users through dramatising real life scenarios using short films, skits and interactive media contents.
Mohammed, therefore, called on entertainers, skit makers, content creators, actors, movie producers and youths to join hands with FRSC in promoting safer roads in Nigeria through this novel initiative.
