The political crisis rocking Rivers state assumed another dimension on Wednesday as the governor, Sim Fubara ordered demolition of teh State Assembly.
The Reasons for the demolition are yet to be revealed but it may not be far from the recent crisis that rocked the House of Assembly
TheHintsNews reports that Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie, Wednesday declared the seats of 27 lawmakers that defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) vacant.
Recall that Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Tuesday, confirmed Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s ally, Ehie, as authentic Speaker of the House of Assembly.
The decision was the latest twist in the continuing saga of wrangling and bitterness in the state between Fubara and his erstwhile political godfather, and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Prior to the judgment, the 27 lawmakers loyal to Wike on Tuesday defected to the APC as part of the grand plot to impeach Fubara.
However, the Speaker on Wednesday declared the seats of the lawmakers who decfrom vacant in line with Section 109 (1) (g) and 2 of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.
