The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje Wednesday said the National Working Committee (NWC) under his leadership inherited the sum of N8,987,874,663 debt when he assumed office.
Ganduje made this known in Abuja at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
He added that the inherited debts were expenses incurred during pre-election legal battles, election cases, and appeals for legislative, governorship, and presidential elections.
He stated: “The current NWC inherited debts and legal liabilities to the total tune of N8,987,874,663, arising from various legal engagements.”
However, he noted that the National Legal Adviser, Prof. Abdul Kana (SAN), has been working to reduce the debt burden through dialogue and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
Ganduje aso appealed for the intervention of the NEC, stressing that some of the party’s accounts remain garnished.
He said: “We still passionately appeal to the National Executive Committee to intervene accordingly.”
The meeting was attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, state governors, NWC members, party chieftains, among others.
