The House of Representatives on Thursday dared President Bola Tinubu by scrapping the N5 billion budgeted for presidential yacht in the supplementary Budget submitted to the National Assembly.
To this end, the Green Chamber has, however, increased the budgetary allocation for student loans from N5.5 billion to 10 billion.
TheHintsNews reports that there have been public outcry since it emerged that the presidency budgeted N5 billion for presidential yacht, while a greater number of the population wallo in abject poverty.
However, the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abubakar Bichi Abubakar, made this disclosure while addressing journalists on Thursday following the passage of 2.177 trillion supplementary Budget.
The lawmaker noted the decision became necessary following low budgetary allocation for students
Abubakar also revealed that the Committee also increased the budgetary allocation of the Ministry of Defence from 476 billion to 546 billion following security concerns.
He added that the minimum wage for workers was considered and approved for onward transmission to the executive.
The chairman said the sum of 100 billion was retained for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as requested by the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike.
