    House Directs Military, DSS  to Address Escalating Insecurity in Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara

    The House of Representatives has directed the Inspector General of Police, the military and the Department of State Security (DSS) to address theescalating security menace in Katsina, Kaduna and Zamfara states.

    The resolution of the House was sequel to the adoption of a motion moved at the plenary on Thursday by Hon. Sheu Dalhatu.

    Moving the motion, the lawmaker recalled that on 7th May, 2024 an unspecified number of people, mostly women and children were kidnapped at Unguwar Goje of Sayau Ward Sabuwa Local government.

    He said the bandits are demanding more than N100 million as ransom for their release.

    Dalhatu also recalled  that on 12th May, 2024 five people were killed, while several people mostly women and children were kidnapped at Unguwar Hussain of Gamji Ward Sabuwa Local Government.

    He added that on 13th and 14th May, 2024 the community of Yarmalamai Ward in Faskari Local government was ransacked by bandits, 9 people were killed, over 5,000 people were displaced, while 4,900 bags of grains were carted away, over 200 herds of cattle were rustled, as well as about 50 shops  rubbed and many burnt down. 

    Dhalatu said the recent banditry attacks resulted into the tragic loss of five soldiers while many sustained injuries leaving the communities they were meant to protect deserted making them more vulnerable to more attacks from these criminals. 

    The House urged, “The Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Army and the Department of State Services to deploy security personnel to Yarmalamai Community in Faskari Local Government of Katsina State.” 

    It also urged the Chief of Defence Staff to redirect the redeployment of personnel to the affected areas; and 

    Meanwhile, the House has resolved to investigate the escalating insecurity in communities within Makarfi-audan Federal Constituency of Kaduna State which has resulted to the tragic death of Malam Kabiru; the village head of Marke Community owho was slaughtered and set ablaze by unknown assassins on May 2, 2024.

    The resolution of the House followed the adoption of an urgent motion moved at the plenary yesterday by Hon. Umar Ajilo. 

    Presenting the motion, the lawmaker expressed concern  that the escalating insecurities bedeviling the  people of Makarfi-Kudan Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.

    He stressed that if this menace was not timely checked, it might spread to other neighbouring communities in Zaria, Katsina and some parts of Kano State. 

    The House resolved: “Direct the Inspector General of Police in conjunction with the Military and others security agencies such as the DSS, through their respective House Committees to investigate the recent incident and a develop strategic security operations to address this escalating menace in the affected communities.”

    Also, the House has urged the chief of Army staff to constitute military barracks in Tsafe local government area of Zamfara State to strengthen border defence of the areas. 

    The resolution of the House followed the recent the killings of 27 persons of Bilbis town In Tsafe local government. 

    Moving the motion at the plenary on Thursday, Hon. Kabiru Mai-Palace said on May 10, 2024, bandits stormed Bilbis  and killed over 27 people, while  over 50 sustained various degrees of injuries by gun shot and many were abducted. 

    He recalled that similar event happened weeks ago inside Tsafe town were these bandits attacked PDP Secretary of Tsafe local Governments Alh. Musa Ille in his residence and gruesomely murdered him.

    Mai-Palace said a number of communities within Tsafe Local Government including Magazu, Wanzamai, Keta, Danjibga, Kwaren Ganuwa, Yan Doton Daji, Kucheri, Unguwar Chida, Kunchin Kalgo, and many more face these incessant attacks in recent times by this bandits. 

    He noted that the continuous killings and abduction in Tsafe Local Government demands immediate attention and action, lives and property are under constant threat, saying  the situation was deteriorating rapidly day by day. 

    The House, therefore, urged the federal government to deploy additional security personnel equipped with adequate logistics support.
