The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has been urged to regulate the activities of commercial motorcyclists, also known as Okada and tricycles popularly called Keke NAPEP by including them into its taxation system.
The Executive Secretary, Joint Tax Board, Mrs. Nana-Aisha Obomegbite gave the charge on Monday in Abuja during a town hall meeting on tax harmonisation drive in FCT titled, “Shaping our future together organised by the FCT Administration”.
She pointed out that the sector of transportation in Nigeria especially the FCT has grown to a level that must be regulated.
Obomegbite added that such a sector that was reckoned with is a source of concern while considering security, stressing that motorcycles and tricycles were both used in executing Kuje jailbreak hence the time to regulate the sector.
Also, the Permanent Secretary, FCT Administrations, Adesola Olusade, said the three revenue generating agencies for FCTA have been harmonised.
He however encouraged the area councils not to doubt the system but to have trust in the new move.
On his part, the Chairman, FCT Council of Chiefs and the Ona of Abaji, His Royal Majesty, Adamu Baba Yunusa, represented by Sheriki Gabas, Alhaji Kamas Adamu-Garba, who expressed reservation about the new move, called for transparency and truthfulness in the arrangements of the FCT tax harmonisation.
Adamu-Garba however charged the leadership of the Administration to collapse all its revenue generating agencies into the harmonisation structure.
She noted such would give all the partners confidence in the system.
