The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has said that the ongoing labour protest would not affect the successful conduct of governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states.
INEC Head of the Department of Voter Education and Publicity, Imo State, Emanuella Ben-Opara, disclosed this Friday while speaking with journalists in Owerri on the level of
preparations for the Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
He added that the Commission got assurance from National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), earlier before now, saying the body was not part of the labour union.
Ben-Opara stressed that all materials have already been deployed to the 27 INEC Local Government Offices.
He revealed that vehicles hired from the NURTW are on-site to facilitate the transportation of personnel and materials to all polling units.
Ben-Opara stressed that all Registration Area Centers have been activated for the onward deployment of sensitive and non-sensitive materials tonight.
While revealing that security agencies have identified all flash spots for the peaceful conduct of the elections, Ben-Opara appealed to residents not to entertain any fear, as security agencies have promised to provide a conducive environment throughout the entire process.
The minister said he expects vibrant engagement during the Retreat and wish to express that Mr. President is passionate about transforming the nation and he shares in that passion through the transformation of the Aviation sector.
“In the same vein, “I expect you all to share same passion in transforming your Department and Agencies for the good of the Aviation Industry and the Nation t large.
“We should be ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work.”
Speaking earlier, Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Buhari Abdulatif, represented by Peter Jiya the Vice Chairman Senate Committee on Aviation, in his good will messages urged the government to tackle the challenges in the aviation industry by improving the aviation business in Nigeria to attract foreign investors in-order to achieve great feat.
He opined that infrastructure at the major Airports should be improved upon, such as safety concerns, high cost of aviation fuel, high operation cost, inadequate funding and resources, flight delays and cancellations and lack of skilled manpower should be addressed.
On his part, Hon. Abdulahi Idris Garba, the Chairman House Committee on Aviation, represented by Hon. Akingbaso Festus, Deputy Chairman House committee on Aviation in his remark assured the ministry and her agencies of the committee’s commitment to give legislative backings to the fruition of its projects.
