The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has inspected recently installed facilities at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport aimed at enhancing the experience of pilgrims embarking on the 2024 Hajj.
The minister was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, FAAN’s directors and the Senator representing Kano South Senatorial District, Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila a.ka Kawu and other dignitaries.
Speaking during inspection, Keyamo outlined three critical requests aimed at enhancing the efficiency and functionality of the airport.
The minister in a statement issued don Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood,
urged the state government to facilitate the installation of a dedicated power line at the airport to address persistent issues of low power outage, particularly affecting the air-conditioning system.
He also sought the state government support in acquiring two additional generating plants to supplement electricity supply at the airport, ensuring uninterrupted operations for pilgrims and travelers alike.
The minister, however, brought attention to property belonging to Skypower that have been under dispute, seeking the state government’s intervention to resolve the matter amicably.
Before the facility inspection, the minister paid a courtesy visit to the Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, who was represented by his deputy, Aminu Gwarzo.
During the meeting, Keyamo expressed his fondness for Kano, stating that the state is always home for him.
Responding, Yusuf warmly assured the minister of the state government’s commitment to addressing the outlined requests promptly.
He pledged to expedite the resolution of the issues raised.
