The governorship candidate of Labour Party in the forthcoming Anambra gubernatorial election, Chief George Moghalu has promised that his government will build a 25MW power plant in Onitsha to power industries in the city and beyond within four years.
TheHintsNews reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled November 6, 2026 for the givernsjop election.
Moghalu in a post on his verified X handle on Sunday also promised that he would invest substantially in major cities in the state, particularly Onitsha, Nnewi, and Awka.
He noted: “Take Onitsha for instance: my government will embark on waterfront development to boost tourism, improve the aesthetics of the city, and, above all, bring back nightlife.
“We will carry out massive rehabilitation of internal roads across major streets, expand those that can be expanded, plant trees, and install streetlights.
“Within four years, my government will build a 25MW power plant in Onitsha to power industries in the city and beyond. We will also build a modern bus and logistics terminal to enhance the transportation of goods and services across the state.”
Moghalu added that the long-abandoned Onitsha Library would be rebuilt and equipped within his first 100 days in office.
He explained that business training institutions like Onitsha Business School would not only receive government support, but more such institutions would be encouraged and established.
The immediate past Managing Director of National Inland Waterways (NIWA) stressed that the Onitsha Sports Club land currently under litigation would be returned to the club, while the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium would be remodeled through a Public-Private Partnership.
He said markets in the state would be opened on Mondays again, while touting would be dealt with decisively.
