The last minute intervention by the leadership of the National Assembly to halt industrial action called by the organised labour which will commence on Monday has hit the rock.
The leadership of the National Assembly had been in an emergency meeting with the labour leaders for more than 2 hours aimed at reaching amicable resolution to avert the strike.
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen and other principal officers of the National Assembly had on Sunday summoned an emergency meeting at the National Assembly complex with the organised labour, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
The labour leaders were represented at the meeting by the President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero and the President of Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Comrade Festus Osifo.
However, labour leaders maintained that they lacked the power to call off the strike.
The labour leaders insisted that there was no going on the industrial action on Monday, but promised to meet to discuss the appeal made by the leadership of the Senate and the House to suspend the strike, in order not to compound the hardship of Nigerians.
