The South-East Zone of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has thrown its weight behind the re-election bid of incumbent President of the council, Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo for a fresh term of four years.
The endorsement of Sukubo by the South-East Youth Leaders was coming ahead of the forthcoming National Elective Congress of NYCN scheduled for September this year.
The move by the South-East Youth Leaders added to the growing list of endorsements from various zones of the NYCN across the country, which further solidifying Sukubo’s position as a strong contender for the presidency of the apex youth body in the country.
The Forum of State Chairmen of NYCN in the South-East Zone in a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting in Enugu made available TheHintsNews on Wednesday cited Sukubo’s excellent performance in office and impactful leadership as reasons for their endorsement.
The communique was jointly signed by Chairman, NYCN Ebonyi State Chapter, Emeji Godwin; Chairman, NYCN Enugu State Chapter, Ebuka Okoh; Chairman NYCN Abia State Chapter, Smith Silvanus; Chairman, NYCN Anambra State Chapter, Emeka Obi and Chairman, NYCN Imo State Chapter, Humphery Osuji.
The South-east youth leaders noted that their choice of Sukubo was predicated on his visionary leadership, strategic planning, effective communication, transparency and accountability, and his unwavering commitment to youth development.
They noted: “Sukubo’s vision for the future of Nigerian youth is inspiring, and his commitment to driving positive change is evident in everything he does.
“His integrity, compassion, and ability to foster social cohesion in the youth constituency across the country make him an outstanding candidate for this esteemed position.
“Sukubo’s experience and track record demonstrate his capacity to lead and inspire meaningful progress in youth development.”
“His leadership style is characterised by inclusivity, responsiveness, empathy, and a deep understanding of the complexities and challenges facing Nigerian youth.”
They added that they have notified the relevant authorities, including the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiative, Delivery, and Monitoring, as well as the National Assembly Committees on Youth Development and State Governments in the zone, of their endorsement of Sukubo, while appealing for their support to ensure the success of the National Elective Congress.
They also said they have commenced massive mobilisation across the five states of the zone for Sukubo, to ensure his resounding electoral victory at the poll.
Meanwhile, the South-East Chairmen Forum of the National Youth Council of Nigeria has distanced itself from what it described as the shenanigans of certain individuals led by Mr. Solomon Adodo, who impersonate the President and National Executive of NYCN with the intent to mislead and defraud members of the public.
The Forum called on the Sukubo-led National Executive to take necessary action against the impostors within the ambit of the law, to serve as a deterrent.
Regarding the proposed National Youth Conference (Confab), an initiative of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration, the Forum of South-East Chairmen of NYCN advocated for inclusive and adequate participation of youths from the zone.
They requested that the Federal Ministry of Youth Development and the National Organizing Committee of the Confab allocate one thousand participation slots to the zone.
“We believe that involving more youths from the zone, the conference can better address regional concerns, harness opportunities, and develop targeted solutions that cater to the unique needs of the youth constituency in the South-East.”
