The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday included the name of Timipre Sylva and his running mate, Joshua Maciver of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 11 governorship election in Bayelsa.
The decision became imperative following the judgement of the Appeal court which upturned the decision of the High Court and reinstated Sylva as APC’s candidate in Bayelsa.
To this end, the commission in the amended the list released on Monday night included his name as part of the candidates that will participate in the Saturday’s election.
TheHintsNews reports that the electoral body two weeks ago removed Sylva’s name from the list citing court order as the reason for removing his name.
The amended list uploaded on the commission’s website on Tuesday, October 24, indicated that the name of Sylva and his running mate Maciver were not included for the Bayelsa election.
In the list signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the commission cited High Court order as the reason for removing Sylva’s name from the amended list.
The decision, however, did not go down well with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the decision of the commission as premature.
