The depletion of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continued on Tuesday as three lawmakers elected on its platform defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during plenary in the House of Representatives.
Their letters of resignation from the PDP were read by the Speaker, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen at the commencement of proceedings.
The lawmakers cited unresolved internal crises within the PDP as the reason for their decision.
The Members who defected were: Hon Aliyu Abdullahi representing Ikara/Kubau Federal Constituency, Kaduna State), Hon. Sadiq Ango Abdullahi, representing Sabon Gari Federal Constituency of Kaduna State; and Hon. Hussaini Ahmed representing Kaduna South Federal Constituency.
With this development, the APC now holds 13 of the 16 House seats from Kaduna State.
Meanwhile, the total number of defections in recent times in the Green Chamber has now reached 51, with the APC gaining 48 Members.
However, the PDP has gained two, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) gained one.
The PDP has lost 32 seats, Labour Party -12, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) -three, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) – two, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and APGA have each lost one.
