The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas has revealed that President Bola Tinubu has signed the National Anthem Bill into law.
TheHintsNews reports that the National Assembly had given the bill to change the current National Anthem, “Arise O Compatriots,” to the country’s old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” accelerated hearing to ensure it’s passage.
The proposed legislation was titled, “National Anthem Bill, 2024.”
Abbas disclosed this Wednesday during the during the joint sitting of the National Assembly to commemorate 25 years of unbroken democracy in the country.
He added that the President would also flag-off the use of the national anthem.
Though, Abbas said the speeches that were supposed to be delivered by the President, Senate President and himself have been put on hold.
He said the reason for that was that June 12 is the main democracy day, adding that the National Assembly made a mistake in fixing the joint sitting on May 29.
