Seven persons have so far been rescued, while several others are still trapped in a building collapse that occured on Wednesday night at Lagos Street, Garki village, Abuja. Those reportedly rescued have been evacuated to the hospital. The ongoing rescue operation is slow due to rainfall. The officials are however making frantic efforts at getting an excavator to remove people from the rubbles.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has denied reports in some sections of the media that FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike was embarking on a demolition spree in the nation’s capital. Recall that a group has recently kicked against the names of nominees pen down by the Lagos State Governor for screening by the House of Assembly. The United States government has committed $9 million in additional humanitarian assistance to bolster disaster response efforts in North-east. The US embassy in a statement issued Wednesday said the new humanitarian assistance followed a contribution of $6 million in 2022. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened to pull out civil servants from the National Housing Funds (NHF) scheme due non-remittance of deductions made. The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Port Harcourt Zonal Command of the agency on August 21, 2023 in a sting operation at Ogbogoro and Aluu Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
