The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has taken delivery of 17 cargo containers from Dala Inland Dry Port, Kano state to Lagos for onward shipments.
The cargo train which arrived Lagos at about noon on Wednesday July 15, departed Kano on Friday, July 5, 204.
This, the corporation said, was in continuation and consolidation of freight services launched by the Ministry of Transportation in June, 2024.
The Managing Director, NRC, Fidet Okhiria, said the cargo train made the journey only during the daytime.
He said: “The day time movement was to avert unforeseen circumstances or mishaps.
“The Nigerian government believes the cargo haulage system will ease movement of goods from the ports to the hinterlands, while reducing not only the numbers of articulated vehicles on the Nigerian roads, but averting possible mishaps.”
