The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been ranked as the state with the highest education quality in Nigeria in 2026, according to data from NigeriaPolls shared by StatiSense.
The FCT scored 62.1 on the Quality Index, which is measured on a scale of 0 to 100 based on adult literacy rate, net enrollment rate, pupil-teacher ratio, school density and examination performance.
Lagos State followed in second place with 58.4, while Oyo State ranked third with *55.2*.
South-West states dominated the top rankings, taking four of the top six positions: FCT Abuja – 62.1%; Lagos – 58.4%; Oyo – 55.2%; Osun – 54.8%; Ekiti – 53.1%; Ogun – 52.7%; Anambra – 51.9%; Rivers – 51.2%; Delta – 50.8%; Akwa Ibom – 50.1%; Enugu – 49.5; and Cross River – 48.9%>
The data shows a strong performance by southern states, with no northern state outside the FCT making the top 12.
The South-West occupies five slots, South-South – four; South-East – two, and North-Central – one.
Despite leading the chart, the FCT’s 62.1% score indicates significant room for improvement in overall education quality nationwide, as no state crossed the 65 mark.
