Former Super Eagles Legend and global Sports Ambassador, Daniel Amokachi has been named United Nations Football For The Goals (FFTG) champion.
The gold medalist was named alongside sports icons like Eni Aluko, legendary football manager, Carlo Ancelotti, Brazilian football legend, Zico, Brena Bonta Venezuelan professional footballer, Deyna Castellanos, Australian professional footballer, Alex Chidiac and FIFA executive, Moya Dodd.
Others includes: Borja Iglesias (Spanish professional footballer)Thembi Kgatlana (South African professional footballer)Ji-sung Park (South Korean football icon)Javier Zanetti (Inter Milan legend and Vice-President)Khalida Popal (Former captain and founder of the Afghan women’s national team)Alessandro Circati & Cameron Burgess (Australian professionals)
In an official letter signed by Deputy Director Outreach, Department of Global communication Roberto Skinner, Amokachi, would join a small created group of influential players, former players, coaches and media personalities who use their platforms to amplify campaigns, mobilise communities and advocate for positive change basis such as equality inclusions,climate change action, health and human rights
Reacting to his appointment Amokachi said his appointment meant a lot to him.
According to him, I am delighted to be named as one of UN FFTG Champions, it means a lot to me,and i am ready to work with other members of the team to achieve success on this journey”
The FFTG is an initiative of the UN that mobilizes the football community to drive the SDGs, leveraging the world’s most popular sport to build a sustainable and peaceful future.
