The Programme Director, Daisy Oak Foundation, Dr. Kiema Ogunlana has explained that the idea behind the establishment of the foundation was to ensure disability inclusion, maternal health and wellbeing, health and social protection and sustainable community development.

Ogunlana in a post on her verified Facebook account on Monday said that while some organisations begin with an idea, others begin with an experience that changes how you see the world.

She stated: “For me, Daisy Oak Foundation is deeply personal. At the peak of my mother’s career, she became visually impaired and was later diagnosed with a cerebrovascular condition alongside diabetes.

“Watching a vibrant, independent and accomplished woman suddenly navigate life differently changed my understanding of disability forever.

“I learnt that disability can happen to anyone, at any stage of life. Inclusion therefore cannot be an afterthought.

“That experience is part of the heart behind Daisy Oak Foundation and why disability inclusion sits firmly within our core objectives.”

Ogunlana recalled that her 12 years as Program Director at Sam Empowerment Foundation (SEF) gave her the privilege of leading interventions across health, education, nutrition, women’s empowerment and child protection.

According to her, I remain genuinely grateful for that chapter; for the communities, partnerships, experiences and lessons that shaped me. Today, I continue that journey as Program Director, Daisy Oak Foundation, building on those experiences with an even deeper commitment to people who are too often left behind.

The Programme Director added: “And at the heart of it all is one question: Who is still being left out? Because inclusion is more than bringing people into existing programmes.

“It means intentionally creating systems and opportunities that allow everyone to participate, access essential services and live with dignity.

“My mother’s journey made disability inclusion personal. My humanitarian journey taught me the importance of listening. Daisy Oak brings those lessons together.”

TheHintsNews reports that the foundation in alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 5: Gender Equality), the MotherCare Community Outreach team in partnership with Civil Society scaling up nutrition in Nigeria (FCT Chapter) conducted a strategic advocacy and partnership visit to the Primary Health Care (PHC) Centre in Sabon Gari Bwari Area Council.

The delegation met with health authorities to establish a collaborative framework ahead of the upcoming multi-sectoral community intervention scheduled for Monday, 7 September 2026.

The intervention targets 100 vulnerable beneficiaries in Sabon Gari, comprising pregnant and lactating women, adolescent girls, and primary school pupils.
