More details have emerged about the circumstances surrounding the sudden resignation of Ajuri Ngelale as the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.
TheHintsNews reports that on Saturday a shocking statement was issued in the early hours of Saturday about Ngelale’s sudden departure.
“While I fully appreciate that the ship of state waits for no man, this agonising decision — entailing a pause of my functions as the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity and Official Spokesperson of the President; Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, and Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen — was taken after significant consultations with my family over the past several days as a vexatious medical situation has worsened at home.
“I look forward to returning to full-time national service when time, healing, and fate permit. I respectfully ask for some privacy for my family and I during this time.”
However, TheHintsNews can authoritatively report that Ngelale was asked to choose between being a spokesman and being an envoy on climate change.
A reliable source who preferred anonymity revealed that the former presidential spokesperson decided to choose to be a spokesperson.
Checks revealed that his recent appointment as Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, and Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen was to give him a soft landing considering the embarrassing gaffes in his statements.
The source added that the President did not accept his choice to stay in as his official spokesperson, hence, his decision to resign giving the excuses.
The source noted: “The plan to give Ngelale soft landing started a few weeks ago when he was made the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, and Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.
“He was later asked to choose between being a spokesman and being an envoy on climate change. He chose the former, not realising that his appointment as envoy was to give him a soft landing considering the embarrassing gaffes in his statements.
“But the president did not accept his choice to carry on as his official spokesman. Ngelale, however, decided to resign by giving those excuses.”
The source further revealed that Ngelale allegedly planted stories that his decision was on account of his disagreement with government policies.
This was why the presidency issued a statement regarding his resignation.
Checks revealed that the President is considering someone in the present media team as the official spokesperson
It was, however, gathered that Sunday Dare has started lobbying intensely to be appointed as the spokesperson of the President.
