The Kenyan government has disclosed plans to commence daily flights to Nigeria as part of its visa free entry policy introduced late last year aimed at opening up Kenya to the world.
The acting Kenya High Commissioner to Nigeria, Samuel Mogere hinted that the present government in Kenya is determined to unite Africa and part of the process is to ensure that Nigerians can travel easily and on a daily basis to Kenya without stress.
He noted that as part of the initiative aimed at opening up Kenya to the world, the Kenya Airways will commence daily flights to Nigeria.
Mogere made the disclosure on the sidelines at the Magical Kenya road show in Abuja.
Mogere further said that the Kenya Roadmap 2024 is aimed at implementing the presidential agenda which is to build one Africa and one people.
He said: “The Kenya government has actually opened visa free entry to Kenya and as announced last year, we have started operating since January.
“For anyone going to Kenya, it’s extremely easy for you to process your visa. You process it yourself and get the authorisation to arrive in Kenya with your free entry. The agenda is, we master our people firstly with one another. We must build one people and one continent.”
Mogere also said the government of Kenya has introduced an online e-visa process where one can apply and get his or her visa approved to travel to Kenya without the rigorous process involved in visa processing before now.
Similarly, the Marketing Manager, Kenya Tourism Board, Alex Tunoi stated that the roadshow was a diversification strategy by the tourism board to increase arrivals from Africa as Africa is the focus of Kenya tourism.
The regional sales manager of Sarova Hotels and Resorts, Kenya Steve Biko said they are in Nigeria because Nigeria is an important market for Kenya with the large population and constant travellers.
Kenya Airways currently flies four times a week between its hub at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi and, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.
Recall that on June 6, 2014, Kenya Airways announced direct flights between Nairobi and Abuja and the flights to Abuja were usually on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
