The Rafin Gabbas community in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa state has threatened to petition President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly and the Department of State Security Service (DSS) to ensure that they get justice for their loved ones who died at illegal mining sites.
The members of the community maintained that they were patiently waiting for the outcome of the police investigation into the deaths recorded at the illegal mining sites allegedly operated by two Chinese firms.
Checks revealed that the police already secured a court order to investigate the mining sites, Nizhong Mining Company Limited and Capital Apex Synergy Global Services Limited — they are some of the mining companies allegedly operating illegally in the Rafin Gabbas mining sites.
TheHintsNews reports that a police investigation team had recovered dead bodies at the sites in the village as part of the ongoing investigation.
Speaking with journalists on Monday in Nasarawa, a member of the community who spoke on behalf of others, John Mark said the police must identify the culprits and the Chinese companies involved in illegal mining and all security personnel guarding the mining sites.
They said they believed in the capacity of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to ensure thorough investigation of the case.
The community, however, called for the probe of the two Chinese firms operating the sites.
Recall the secretary of the mining community, Eshimutu Ode had told Journalists that many people have died at the illegal mining sites, hence, their resolve to get justice this time around.
